Er gilt als das Enfant terrible der Kunstszene und ist einer der bedeutendsten und meist diskutierten deutschen Künstler seiner Generation. Jonathan Meese (*1970, Japan) spricht aus, was er denkt, ist auf seine Art radikal und kann der akademisch intellektuellen und kulturelle Wichtigtuerei nichts abgewinnen. Mit seiner "Diktatur der Kunst" ruft er dazu auf, dass die Kunst an die Macht muss, denn in der Kunst, so Meese, darf man alles machen, solange es nicht der Realität und dem Ritual folgt: "Das Tolle an der Kunst ist, sie ist ein Sandkasten, in dem jeder willkommen ist. Da gibt es so etwas wie Hautfarben nicht, da gibt es keine Wichtigkeiten, keine Religionen. Das Ich wird total relativiert." (aus: Im Spielzimmer. In: Die Zeit, Nr. 4/2008.).

Mit seinem Schaffen möchte Messe gerne die Welt missionieren. Seine bevorzugten Motive sind das Böse unserer Zeitgeschichte. Sie zu besiegen gelingt nur, wenn seine Kunst radikaler ist als sie selbst. Dabei spielt er immer wieder auf provokante Weise mit den Themen Nationalität, der deutsche Mythologie und dem „deutschen Wahn“.

Daher erklärt es sich nur von selbst, dass Meese auf seiner Flagge lediglich DIKTATUR DER KUNST zu stehen hat. Wie ein Fels in der Brandung, wird sie allen rauen Wetterbedingungen trotzen und ihr Mast aufrecht stehen bleiben. Die Flagge gilt als performatives Sprachrohr Meeses. Den ganzen Sommer lang wird sie erhobenen Hauptes dastehen und uns pausenlos DIKTATUR DER KUNST zurufen.

Meese wants to missionize the world with his works. His favorite motif is the evil of our contemporary history. It's defeat can only be successful if his art is more radical than the evil itself. In doing so, he is always toying in a provocative manner with themes like nationality, German mythology and the "German Wahn" (German delusion).

Therefore it is only self-evident that Meese's flag only summons the words DIKTATUR DER KUNST. Solid like a rock, it will defy all harsh weather and keep its mast upright. The flag will be deemed the performative voice of Meese. Head held high, it will shout at us continuously „DIKTATUR DER KUNST” all summer long.
